Fort Knox Regional Energy Survey.

Abstract

Impact of energy consumption at Fort Knox on the regional energy supply was assessed. Consumption of natural gas at the installation was significant with the post using 1.25% of the total natural gas consumption within the State of Kentucky and 3.45% of the total natural gas sales of its supplier (Louisville Gas and Electric Co.). Supply of other sources of energy in the region such as fuel oil, propane, coal and electricity is not impacted significantly by the Post. Fort Knox's bill for all energy sources for FY 76 was $5.1 million. To meet future energy demands of the Post, several recommendations have been made in the form of an energy plan; however, further studies are required to establish the feasibility of some of the alternatives outlined.
