The Relationship of System Families to HDM.

Abstract

A system family is a set of computer systems that share common properties. This report discusses the use of an existing software development methodology, HDM (the SRI Hierarchical Development Methodology), to describe system families, It is believed that, if a group of related systems is developed as a family using this methodology, costs will be saved over separate development efforts. Several issues in system families are presented, and some ongoing work in applying this methodology is discussed. (Author)
