Investigation of the Environmental Consequences of Disposal of the Lithium-Organic Electrolyte/SO2 Battery.

Abstract

This report contains preliminary recommendations for the disposal of small and large quantities of lithium-organic electrolyte/SO2 batteries based upon a literature review for toxicity of the battery components and laboratory tests of leachate from cross-sectioned batteries. The leaching tests identified significant quantities of cyanide from discharged batteries. (Author)
