Metabolic Studies in Military Nutrition.

Abstract

The Surgeon General's Office over a period of years has undertaken an extensive research program into the chemistry, nutrition, and wholesomeness of food preserved by ionizing radiation. As one of the Surgeon General's contractors, the University of Colorado jointly with the U.S. Army Medical Research and Nutrition Laboratory has undertaken the studies of the wholesomeness of food preserved by ionizing radiation. Work on radiated food has been fairly well completed, although a possibility of long term human feeding tests on radiated food still remains. In the meantime, much work on physiological, metabolic, and nutritional research in normal young adult men has been going on making use of volunteer human test subjects.
