A Test of the Effectiveness of Time Management Training in a Department of the Navy Program Management Office (PMO)

Abstract

An experiment, designed to introduce time management concepts, was conducted with 33 volunteers from a Department of the Navy PMO -- the experimental group. The instruments used to conduct the experiment were a Time Management Survey and a Time Management Questionnaire. The survey was used to collect pre- and post-experiment estimates of time spent on nine work activities. The questionnaire was used to gather attitudinal measures. The survey data obtained from the experimental group were statistically compared with similar data from a control group. Time management principles and 'tips' on how to implement the principles were given only to the control group. The results indicated that the times associated with several work activities changed significantly in the predicted direction. However, due to the nature of the design, no cause and effect statements can be made.
