The Rent-Buy Decision for Military Families.

Abstract

This report compares and contrasts the property appreciation and income tax savings advantages of home ownership to the cash-flow advantage of occupying government quarters. An algorithm is developed for service members to use in objectively measuring and comparing the financial advantages of each option. The popular notion that the 'buy' decision is always best from a financial standpoint is brought into question. (Author)
