Toxic Hazards Evaluation of Five Atmospheric Pollutants from Army Ammunition Plants

Abstract

Acute toxic effects of methyl nitrate, tetranitromethane (TNM) and the ortho, meta, and para nitrotoluenes were determined using rats, mice, guinea pigs and rabbits. Subchronic toxicity of TNM to rats was compared to that of NO2 and found to be sufficiently different to lead to an inference of different mechanisms for each contaminant.
