Waveform and Clutter Filter Design for a Satellite-Borne Bistatic Radar for Aircraft Detection

Abstract

Waveform and clutter filtering for the detection of moving aircraft in the presence of ground clutter by a spaceborne bistatic radar are described. The waveform designs are based on mappings of the aircraft and clutter onto the bistatic range-Doppler plane. Low sidelobe digital filter designs for the required clutter rejection, coverage characteristics of a bistatic radar on representative satellite orbits, and system requirements for a North American surveillance fence for bomber detection are included.
