Photocatalyzed Reactions of Alkenes with Silanes using Trinuclear Metal Carbonyl Catalyst Precursors.

Abstract

Irradiation of M3(CO)12 (M = Fe, Ru, Os) in the presence of 1-pentene and HSiEt3 yields (n-pentyl)SiEt3, three isomers of (pentenyl)SiEt3, and n-pentane. For M = Fe, Ru the catalytically active species are mononuclear, but for M = Os the trinuclear unit may remain in the active species. Observed quantum yields for reaction exceed ten for near-uv excitation. (Author)
