The Study of the Interaction of Silicon, Its Monoxides, and Dioxides with Chlorine,

Abstract

A thermodynamic calculation of the chlorination of silicon and its oxides is reported. On the basis of this, a conclusion was made. An hypothesis was proposed for the conditions of the interaction of silicon monoxides with chlorine. These are believed to be determined to a significant degree by the strength of bonds Si - O, the weakening of which depends on both temperature and sorption of the chlorine. The products of this interaction (SiCl4 and SiO2) were determined.
