A Survey of the Use of Ceramics in Battery and Fuel Cell Applications

Abstract

A survey has been carried out examining the use of ceramics in battery and fuel cell applications. Brief descriptions and characteristics of batteries are presented, including those operating at near ambient and at elevated temperatures. The current technology of fuel cells is also discussed. Finally, a detailed analysis of the problem areas and related research needs for ceramics in these applications is provided together with recommendations for future work in this area.
