The Formation and Optimization of Interferometric Fringes.

Abstract

Expressions to describe fringe contours in the region of interference of two coherent beams are derived for three combinations of plane and spherical wave geometries. The fringe contrast ratio is shown to be spatially variable whenever spherical wavefronts are involved and can be controlled by altering the reference to signal beam intensity ratio. These expressions can be applied during the fabrication of matched filters or holographic lenses. (Author)
