Application of Behavioral Science Theories within the Army Project Management Office.

Abstract

Military managers are receiving more and more exposure to behavioral management theories, but there does not appear to have been a corresponding increase in their application. This study contains a summary of Dr. Chris Argyris' theory of integrating individual and organizational objectives and Dr. Frederick Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory and examples of practical applications of each in the Army project management office. This study is intended to provide managers with a starting point for the use of these theories and also to cause managers to being to consider behavioral management theories as a usable management tool.
