A Survey of Multiattribute/Multicriterion Evaluation Theories.

Abstract

This report provides a comprehensive survey of theories for the evaluation of decision alternatives and/or consequences of decision that are characterized by a number of attributes or performance criteria. The evaluation theories are classified under a certainty/risk/uncertainty trichotomy and include varieties of utility theory, noncompensatory preference structures, theories of stochastic dominance, theories of risk, and many others. More than 300 references are provided, about half of which have appeared after 1970. The survey also discusses various choice models for multiattribute/multicriterion situations and includes a concluding section on assessment methodology. (Author)
