Structure-Property Relationships in Aligned Chiral Nematic Phases.

Abstract

The purpose of this grant was to explore structure-property relationships in aligned chiral nematic (liquid crystalline) phases. Much basic information was missing: for example, the speed at which molecules diffuse in a liquid crystalline phase, and the aspects of molecules' size, shape and functionality affecting the molecular twisting power of solute molecules in chiral liquid crystalline solvents.
