Methods of Identifying Source of Petroleum Found in the Marine Environment. Report II.

Abstract

The identification of oils by field ionization mass spectrometry is reported. Two multivariate data analysis models are described; a parametric statistical model that is based on the assumption of stochastic independence and an empirical model that can be used in a 'learning machine' mode. The results of applying the empirical model to 154 quadrupole spectra and 42 sector magnet spectra are reported. (Author)
