Scientific Plan for Surface Duct Sonar Measurements (SUDS).

Abstract

The Surface Duct Sonar Measurements (SUDS) program is designed to fill a long overlooked gap in knowledge of suface duct propagation. The fundamental objective is to increase sonar system effectiveness. The SUDS experiment is novel because for the first time environmental measurements that will be conducted over the entire acoustic field will establish adequate controls for the experiment. Sound speed profiles will be continuously sampled both in space and time while three different instruments will measure sea surface roughness.
