Exploration for Geothermal Energy on Oahu, Hawaii.

Abstract

Most interest in geothermal development in Hawaii up to the present time has centered on the development of thermal energy at Kilauea Volcano on the Island of Hawaii. Several test wells have yielded encouraging results with respect to further development of geothermal energy (Keller, et al, 1974). However, nearly 80% of the population of Hawaii reside on the Island of Oahu. In view of the larger market for energy there, it is reasonable to review the potential for the occurrence of commercial geothermal resources on Oahu.
