A Digital Compass,

Abstract

A digital magnetic compass has been developed using a two axis Brown type ring core magnetometer as earth's magnetic field sensor. Bearing is derived via a trigonometric algorithm where a commercially available calculator chip performs the required mathematical computations. Designed primarily for slow moving applications, the portable digital compass has a 4 digit LED bearing display and may be operated on internal batteries or from an external AC power supply.
