The Qualitative and Quantitative Value of Tactical Mobility.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine what has been learned about the value of tactical mobility and what it means, and to delineate those investigations still needed to measure this value. It focuses on tactical, as opposed to strategic, mobility and concentrates on ground combat elements in the theater of operations. It does not include an exploration of mobility technology. The basic approach involved conduct of a literature search to determine what information regarding the value of tactical mobility was in the available literature. This effort was augmented by convening, under the sponsorship and direction of the study sponsor (DUSA(OR)), a working meeting of leading experts in tactical mobility and related areas. The results of the literature search and the Tactical Mobility Working Meeting were analyzed and synthesized to produce findings and recommendations. (Author)
