Production Engineering Measure for an Integrated Circuit Power Amplifier 600-1000 MHz, for Tactical Radio Equipment. Volume 1

Abstract

This program was directed towards developing and establishing techniques for manufacturing broadband high power UHF amplifiers. Specifically, a 30 watt amplifier that covered the 600 to 1000 MHz instantaneous bandwidth was to be produced. The work involved; (1) design and characterization of transistors; (2) optimization of internal transistor matching networks; (3) design and fabrication of broadband impedance matching circuits; (4) study and design of broadband power splitters/combiners; (5) batch fabrication of microstrip circuits on alumina; (6) mechanical package design; (7) development of amplifier assembly techniques. During the program a number of engineering models were fabricated and tested prior to the production run. The production amplifiers incorporated changes based on the performance of these engineering models. Electrical, mechanical and environmental tests were performed as required by the specifications.
