Transnormalized Regression Probability.
Abstract
The Transnormalized Regression Probability (TRP) model uses climatological probabilities and requires only a relatively small data base to calculate the probability of occurrence of a future weather event. The three main procedures that comprise this multivariate transnormalized method are: transnormalization, correlation, and regression conditional probability. The transnormalization process a nonlinear process, transforms the observed or raw data into the standard normal variable with the same cumulative climatological probability as the raw predictor. Transnormalization insures that the predictor is normally distributed. The correlation step involves finding the simple correlation between each pair of transnormalized variables. The regression coefficients are calculated using the same steps involved in ordinary multiple linear regression. Conditional probability is calculated using the transnormalized variables in the multivariate normal distribution. (Author)
