On Some Aspects of Random Walks for Modelling Mobility in a Communication Network,

Abstract

This note examines a two-dimensional symmetric random walk model of mobility for terminals in a communication network. A stochastic process associated with the location of a terminal is defined. For a certain location finding scheme, the mean time between terminal transmissions is derived. A first-order analysis is given of the trade-off between the amount of location related data to be transmitted per unit time and the accuracy about the terminals' positions.
