Environmental Conditions in a Tropical Forest Region in Thailand.

Abstract

Major results of a two year project to study the climatological and micrometeorological conditions in a tropical evergreen forest region are summarized in this report. The study has been under the sponsorship of the U. S. Army Engineer Topographic Laboratory. The forest area under study is in the interior of Thailand and is influenced by a cool, dry northeast monsoonal flow from November to March and a warm, moist southwest monsoonal flow from May to September. Measured information were collected during a three year field program sponsored by the U. S. Army Natick Laboratories and included ground station temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, evaporation, hours of sunshine, and tower measurements of temperature, dew point temperature, and wind speed, incoming and reflected solar radiation, incoming and outgoing infra-red radiation and sub-surface temperature profiles in the forest and in a cleared area within the forest region.
