Constraints in the Design and Implementation of Interactive Statistical Systems for Minicomputers.

Abstract

In this paper, attention is focussed on issues and problems relating to the design and implementation of interactive statistical systems (as opposed to batch systems or small batch or interactive programs) for mini-computers. In particular, constraints imposed by certain characteristics of existing mini-computers (such as size of main storage and data format) as well as related operating systems software and programming languages are discussed. Efforts to relax or eliminate these constraints may be considered as prospects for statistical systems for future generations of mini-computers. (Author)
