Dimensionality and Spatial Modelling: A Critical Assessment.

Abstract

Three concepts of dimension applicable to social science are considered: the ordinary language concept, geometrical concept, and dimension as a concept of measurement. Each concept is shown to have important consequences in the pursuit of scientific knowledge when compared and contrasted with the spatial modelling enterprise.
