Photon Interactions with Atmospheric Negative Ions.

Abstract

Photodestruction cross sections have been measured for seventeen negative ions of atmospheric importance over the wavelength range from 5000 to 8400 A using a drift tube mass spectrometer coupled with a tunable dye laser. The cross sections vary from zero to nearly 10 to the -17th power sq cm, and thresholds are found for all ions except O2(-) which are photoactive. Vibrational, electronic and isomeric excited states are observed. (Author)
