Composites-Analysis of Non-homogeneous Deformation of Composite Materials.

Abstract

Environmental pressure, inclusions, and holes have pronounced effect on the strength and ductility of metals. A common test for measuring strength and ductility is the tensile test. A model of a matrix with inclusions and holes is used to obtain an upper-bound solution for the expected strength of the composite. One hypothesis, accepted for this study, is that holes in the interior may be created because of the nonuniformity or nonhomogeneity of the material, these holes being forerunners of final failure. Particular attention is devoted in this study to the prediction of the behavior of the particles and to the growth of pores or prevention of opening of pores. Thus, not only the expected strength of a composite is studied but also the amount of damage imposed by plastic deformation (through the growth of holes) and the prevention of damage during plastic deformation.
