Problem Definition Study: Production and Testing of Pyrogen-Free Water under Field Conditions.

Abstract

The production and testing of pyrogen-free water under field conditions, such as in the Pharmacy Module of Army Mobile Unit Self-Transportable Hospitals (MUST), presents serious problems because of volume requirements, power constraints, and quality control requirements. This report defines these problems and makes recommendations concerning: the development of a treatment system to produce pyrogen-free water from potable water; the evaluation of an in vitro biological test to determine apyrogenicity in the field; and evaluation of a handling and storage system for field-produced pyrogen-free water.
