Factors in Software Quality. Volume-III. Preliminary Handbook on Software Quality for an Acquisiton Manager

Abstract

An hierarchical definiton of factors affecting software quality was compiled after an extensive literature search. The definition covers the complete range of software development and is broken down into non-oriented and software-oriented characteristics. For the lowest level of the software-oriented factors, metrics were developed that would be independent of the programming language. These measurable criteria were collected and validated using actual Air Force data bases. A handbook was generated that will be useful to Air Force acquisition managers for specifying the overall quality of a software system.
