A Mathematical Approach to DCS Architecture Formulation.

Abstract

This report develops a mathematical way of treating far-term DCS (e.g., DCS III) technical planning. The mathematical approach cannot solve all the problems, but it narrows the range of feasible alternatives. Thus, the methodology suggested is a management aid, not a replacement. With this approach, planning the DCS must be stated as an optimization problem. Therefore, high level planning issues and objectives must be translated into proximate and technically meaningful terms. When this is done, the solution can be sought. The report concludes with a proposed methodology and recommendations for implementation. (Author)
