Marine Biofouling Studies in the Gulf of Siam.

Abstract

Marine biofouling studies were conducted in the upper Gulf of Siam during the period 1968-1972. Fifty-two species of biofouling organisms were collected on wood/asbestos test panels at 3 offshore stations. These organisms attached in great numbers and grew rapidly throughout the sampling period. The asbestos panels accumulated a 5-cm-thick coating of hardshelled organisms, and the wooden panels were completely destroyed by woodboring organisms in as few as 7 months at all stations. (Author)
