Transonic Wind Tunnel Tests on the Jindivik 203B Target Aircraft

Abstract

Transonic wind tunnel tests are reported for a 1/20th scale model of the Jindivik 203B target aircraft. Configurations tested include the basic aircraft with and without fin and tail plane, and various combinations of Tonic towed targets on their mounting beams. The tests cover the Mach number range from 0.5 to 0.92 for angles of incidence in the range -3 deg to 7 deg and angles of sideslip from 0 deg to 4 deg. The results indicate that the aircraft is statically stable in both longitudinal and lateral planes for all configurations tested. The major effects of the addition of the Tonic towed targets is a small decrease in lift and a small increase in drag.
