Ionospheric D-Region Electron Density Data Availability.

Abstract

A survey of the availability of ionospheric D-region electron density data has been completed and is reported here. A table which lists 45 world locations where lower ionospheric electron density profiles have been obtained is included. The availability of electron density data is interpreted in terms of the general global distribution and in terms of both intermediate and long-path high frequency (3 to 30 MHz) Army communications channels. World maps are also included which serve to illustrate localities where D-region data have been recorded and world sections and paths where high frequency communications channels are currently active.
