A Survey of Computer Architectures for Image Processing and Pattern Recognition.

Abstract

This paper surveys many of the proposed computer architectures for image processing such as array processors, associative processors, and optical processors. An attempt is made to compare the merits and demerits of these architectures. Attention is specially focussed on array architectures such as the CLIP system which may be economically implemented by large scale integrated circuits (LSI). In section II a set of the more commonly used image processing operations is presented which represent a minimum useful reportaire of operations which should be efficiently executable on an image processor.
