Chemically Modified Electrodes. IX. X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy of Alkylaminesilanes Bound to Metal Oxide Electrodes.

Abstract

ESCA results are presented for SnO2, RuO2, TiO2, and Pt/PtO oxide electrodes silanized with trialkoxyalkylaminesilanes. Observations include effects of reaction conditions, assay of the fraction of amine-like surface nitrogen, assay of N/Si surface atom ratios, O 1s spectra, and fluoride dopant depth profile in SnO2. The silanized surfaces are amine-like but also exhibit other chemical features. The implications of various alkylaminesilane surface structures on electrochemical applications are discussed.
