Radar Identification of Naval Vessels.

Abstract

This annual report summarizes research efforts on Contract N00014-76-C-1079 for the period 15 September, 1976 to 15 September 1977. An investigation of the feasibility of extending an existing radar target identification scheme to the case of naval vessels is reported. The existing scheme is based on the complex natural resonances of a target associated with transient responses synthesized from multiple frequency scattering data. To this end, multiple frequency scattering data of good model targets of various vessel classes in a simulated ocean environment are reported. From these data special target response waveforms are generated and natural resonances extracted. Results are given showing the identification potential of both the response waveforms and the complex natural resonances. In a concluding section recommendations are made for a logical continuation of the research effort. (Author)
