Light Emission Produced by Reactions between Rare Gas Ions and Fluorine-Containing Gases.

Abstract

The research project reported here was undertaken in an effort to determine whether excited rare gas halides, specifically, KrF and ArF, could be produced by ion-molecule reactions between the rare gas atomic ions and fluorine- containing gases such as F2 NF3, and SF6. No excited rare gas halide emissions were observed for any of the systems studied. Emissions resulting from the ion-molecule reactions investigated were all atomic and could be assigned to He, F, F+, Ar, Ar+, Kr, Kr+, N or N+ transitions. (Author)
