Hydrodynamic Model Evaluation of the MCDEC LVA Design Concept in Calm Water and Head Seas

Abstract

The results of hydrodynamic model tests of a new planing design concept for the LVA are presented and analyzed. Rough water performance in head seas, seakeeping and habitability characteristics are discussed. Optimum LCG and transom flap deflection are selected and satisfactory performance is demonstrated over the speed range. Attention is drawn to the possibility of air ingestion by the water jet pump.
