On a Class of Boundary Value Problems for a Composite System of First Order Differential Equations.

Abstract

A system of 2n+1 first order partial differential equations, 2n of which are elliptic is investigated. Representation theorems are obtained using earlier methods. A necessary condition is given for the existence of a unique continuous solution of an associated Riemann boundary value problem. Results of this type are of interest for the study of systems of mixed type which occur for example in transonic flows.
