Design Criteria for Medical Suites in Destroyers and Frigates, and Generalized Medical and Dental Space-Capability Matrices.

Abstract

Part I of this report consists of Design Criteria for Medical Suites in Destroyers and Frigates, which present in drawings and text the functional design requirements of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery for medical suites in those types of ships. These suites are based upon design criteria which have been developed earlier for discrete types of medical spaces, and are intended to combine appropriate numbers and types of such spaces into optimal arrangements. In Part II, the Generalized Medical and Dental Space-Capability Matrices present in graphic form the relationships among selected medical and dental operational capabilities and the types of medical and dental spaces required to provide those operational capabilities. The selected operational capabilities for any particular ship design are derived from the missions specified for that particular ship. The use of these matrices will facilitate the introduction of the medical and dental requirements into the ship's design in its early stages.
