Structures of Metallocarboranes. IX. Crystal and Molecular Structure of the Ten-Vertex Heterobimetallocarborane 2, 3-Di-eta-cyclopentadienyl-10-carba-(2,3)-(Nickelacobalta)- decaborane(8), 2,3-(n-C5H5)2-(2,3)-NiCo-10-CB7H8.

Abstract

Polyhedral expansion of the monocarbacobaltacarborane anion C5H5(-)Co-CB7H8(-) with NiBr2-2 glyme in the presence of C5H5(-) affords several neutral isomeric complexes of the formula (C5H5)2NiCoCB7H8 which contain formal NiIV) and Co(III) vertices, and which are isoelectronic with (C5H5)2Co2C2B6H8. The structure of one isomer of the latter has previously been reported; the mixed cobalt-nickel compounds exist in more numerous isomeric forms. An x-ray structural investigation of one isomer of this complex is reported herein.
