Advantages of Residual Stresses in Dynamically Riveted Joints.

Abstract

This report presents an analytical method for calculating residual stresses in joints riveted dynamically, results of the Moire experimental method for measuring the residual strain distribution around a rivet hole, and describes an experimental method for measuring the radial velocity of an expanding rivet. The advantages of compressive residual stress in dynamically riveted joints are demonstrated through constant amplitude fatigue testing. (Author)
