Blast Parameters and Other Characteristics of N5 Propellant

Abstract

The peak pressures and positive impulses resulting from detonating inprocess and final product forms of N5 in the scaled distance range of approximately 2.5 to 40 ft/lb to the 1/3 power were measured. Variables considered included booster size and propellant weight and configuration. The MK 43-1 2.75-inch rocket grain registered the greatest TNT equivalency at 9 ft/ lb to the 1/3 power; peak pressure was 250%, and scaled positive impulse 145%. All other forms of N5 registered lower airblast readings.
