General Computational Approach for the Evaluation of an ASW System Cost-Effectiveness.

Abstract

This memorandum describes some of the initial concepts in the formulation of a computer model for the prediction of sonar system cost effectiveness. The overall effectiveness of an ASW system obviously involves many factors, including weapon, ship, and sonar system performance. The following development concentrates on the sonar system performance, with minor consideration of ship and weapon capability. The general philosophy followed would seem to be applicable to more comprehensive evaluations of overall ASW weapon systems when detail ship, sonar, and weapon information are incorporated.
