Interpretation of Ice Imagery from Original and Modified Versions of a Real-Aperture SLAR,

Abstract

SLAR ice imagery obtained with a Motorola AN/APS-94D and a Doppler beam-sharpened modification of it designed and built for the Department of National Defence by the Communications Research Centre is evaluated and the modes compared. The imagery was obtained in October 1976 in the Arctic Ocean and Nares Strait as part of Exercise BRISK. It is concluded that in its present form the DBS modification is less useful than the APS-94D for the extraction of ice information. (Author)
