South Korea: Geographic Change Through Central Planning.

Abstract

This study concentrates on describing and assessing the economic development, or modernization of South Korea in the post-World War II period with particular emphasis on the formal planning era from 1962 through 1981. Specific focus is on the role of central planning in promoting change and determining the location of economic activity. Political, social, and physical geographical factors bearing on the planning process and the changing economic geography are introduced where pertinent.
