Review and Recommendations for the Interagency Ship Structure Committee's Fiscal 1979 Research Program.

Abstract

The Ship Research Committee (SRC) of the National Research Council provides technical services covering program recommendations, proposal evaluations, and project advice to the interagency Ship Structure Committee (SSC), composed of representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard, Naval Sea Systems Command, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration, and the American Bureau of Shipping. This arrangement, established since 1946, requires continuing interaction among the SRC, the SSC, the contracting agency and the project investigators to assure an effective program to improve ship hull structures through an extension of knowledge of materials, fabrication methods, static and dynamic loading and response, and methods of analysis and design. This report contains the Ship Research Committee's recommended research program for five years, FY 1978 - 1982, with 14 specific prospectuses from which to select projects for FY 1979. Also included is a brief review of 26 active and 6 recently completed projects. (Author)
