EXCEDE/SWIR Ion Mass Spectrometer - An Instrument Description.

Abstract

This report presents the positive-ion mass spectrometer that was part of a SWIR rocketborne electron-accelerator experiment. A quadrupole mass filter with a specially designed ion collection configuration is described. Special attention is given to the problem introduced by high positive vehicle potentials which result from the high emission currents of the electron-accelerator. A comprehensive ion mass scanning program is described and important instrument parameters are specified. Typical data is included only to illustrate instrument performance.
