LACV-30 Auxiliary Power Unit Investigation.

Abstract

An investigation was performed to determine the cause and solution to a series of Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) failures on LACV-30 vehicles. Vibration and other measurements were made on the complete installation, the APU module alone and the engine alone. It was concluded that the APU module arrangement reinforced or excited an engine vibration mode to destructive amplitudes. The problem was solved by modifying the APU to virtually eliminate this vibration. (Author)
